The angular monument to the discoveries is predominantly adorning the Belem waterfront which is a huge monolith overlooking the river Tagus. The structure is constructed to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator. The statues of prominent personalities such as Vasco da Gama, Fernao de Magalhaes Pedro Alves Cabral. The monolith features Henry standing with caravel in his hand. You can adore the personalities immortalized on stone and can climb to the top for a seagull's eye view of the riverfront and the vicinity encompassing the place. An enormous pavement campus is sunk in the Esplanade where giant mosaic maps of the world, locations which date new land that has been discovered. It is one of the photographic sites which must not be left unclicked cherishing the memories of the visit. The carved figures represent the predominant personalities dating back to the 14th Century. The monolithic carved figures represent adventures and explorers as well as the financiers and the supporters.
