Aqueducts are the major source of water supply to Lisbon city. It is a 19 km pipeline which is constructed under the principle of gravity. It is gracefully designed ensuring an efficient and free flow of water. This provides the city with fresh water through pipes. The sloping design of the aqueduct ensures quick water flow. The 35 arches soaring up to 65 m high is an outstanding feature that is situated at the center. The solid bunker like stone building repleting with gothic flourishes representing similarity to the grotto. The gallery hosts cultural events such as music and art exhibitions and the roof offers a picturesque view of the city. The water ceiling sprouting from the pillars rise above the surface with water levels flooding to lower levels of the cistern.
It is 500 m via R. Dom Carlos de Mascarenhas and Calçada da Quintinha and people can walk to reach the place.
