Today's Rembrandt House Museum is where Rembrandt lived and worked from 1639 to 1658. The museum that pays tribute to the artist's life and career was his 17th-century house. The house was built in 1606. The date is painted in gold decorates. An annex has been recently built next to the Amsterdam Rembrandt’s house. This Museum shows the unknown aspects of the famous painter’s life and his artistic craft.
Have you ever wondered about the kind of lifestyle that the now-famous artists used to live years back? Then consider your wish granted. The Rembrandt House Museum will give you a glimpse into the Dutch painter’s life, by taking you through his workshop, his kitchen, his art, his living quarters, etc.
The House Museum is restored to the way it was in the 17th Century when Rembrandt used to live here. Now, you must be wondering how was the artist’s former residence restored to its former glory? The items from the same era were sourced and collated on the basis of the inventory that was drawn up when the painter declared bankruptcy at the time.
In addition to Rembrandt’s work, the museum even portrays the works of those that inspired him, and also of the ones whom he inspired. You will get the chance to see the paintings of his pupils, his contemporaries, as well as that of his mentor - Pieter Lastman.
Apart from the paintings, the visitors of the museum can marvel at the huge collection of 260 etchings by Rembrandt. The year 2019 marks the 350th death anniversary of the Dutch artist, which will be commemorated at the museum via 3 astonishing exhibitions dedicated to the master painter.
