About EYE Film Institute Netherlands

EYE Film Institute formerly known as Filmmuseum was founded in 1952.  It was officially opened on 4 April 2012 in its present address. It has  a vast collection of 820,000 objects. A enjoyable ferry ride from Train station to film institute situated on the banks of the river IJ It holds 4 screening rooms that showcase a wide variety of films, from historical classics to the latest arthouse premieres.  There is a 1200m sqWexhibition space with 4 changing exhibitions every year. You can go to the large terrace with a spectacular view over Amsterdam. Permanent exhibition Green Screen where you can make your own movie There are special pods where you can sit down on sofas and view film footage on Cinemascope screens Thee museum collection includes 37,000 film titles, 60,000 posters, 700,000 photographs and 20,000 books. The materials date from the start of the film industry in the Netherlands in 1895. In Eye bar-restaurant you can have lunch and dinner with panoramic views over the river IJ.

How to reach

Eye is right in front of Amsterdam Central Station. Ferry: Take the ferry towards Buiksloterweg. The ferry runs every few minutes 24 hours a day and is free. Eye is a three minute walk to the left of the arrival in Amsterdam-Noord. Bus: Lines 38 and 105 stop near the ferry in Noord at three minutes walking distance from Eye.

Tips

  • Tickets are on sale at the checkout and via the film and exhibition pages on this website. The online pre-sale stops 90 minutes before the start of the film.
  • Cash is not accepted at cash registers, you can only pay with PIN and credit card.
  • It is not possible to reserve tickets for film shows. Reservations expire half an hour before the start.
  • The basement of the museum has a permanent part, which you can visit for free.
