The Narayanhiti Palace Museum named after the Hindu God Vishnu was the stronghold of the monarchy of Nepal. Surrounded by lavish courtyards, the famous white (water sprout) after which the palace is named and gardens, it is a symbol of royalty. The history of this palace tell tales of prosperity and downfall, it was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in the 1930s and was also the scene of a mass Nepal Palace killing in 2001. Tours of the palace stretch from the temple located within the palace bounds to the beautifully decorated rooms of the palace, a reception room with chandeliers and lavish dining rooms and bedrooms, this museum transports you to an era of royal dominance and opulence.
