This historic mosque was got constructed by Emir Munzer Al-Tannoukhi, former Governor of Beirut between 1616 and 1633. Partly damaged during the Lebanese Civil War, the mosque was restored in 2002. The splendid traditional Lebanese architecture of the Emir Munzer Mosque along with the octagonal minaret depicting the Mamluk style makes it a treat for eyes. The splendor of the mosque lies in its magnificent courtyard surrounded by a lofty portico of pointed arches resting on eight grey granite columns of pre-existing Roman structures. Its glass roof and central fountain add to its uniqueness. It was built by Emir Munzer Al-Tannoukhi and because of a fountain positioned in its courtyard, it is also known as Masjid Al-Naoufara and was built during the Ottoman period.
