About Jantar mantar, Varanasi

Jantar Mantar was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in Varanasi, it is an observatory built in the year 1737. Maharaja Jai singh had a keen interest in astronomy and finally developed the astronomical wonder that enablesto determine the status of planets, sun and the moon. It also consists of instruments and therefore known as Yanthra Mandir. Few of the instruments that are still seen are  Narivalaya dakshin, Dhruva Yantra, Ram Yantra, Prakash Yantra, Disha Yantra, Samrat Yantra, Digansha Yantra, Krantivritta Yantra,Chakra Yantra, Laghu Samrat Yantra. Chakra yantra is used to find the real inclination of the Sun and moon, their distance calculated in meridian time. Narivalaya dakshin and uttar gola are used to know the placement of the stars. Other Yantras are present to determine various other astronomical factors, that can be observed in Jantar mantar.
