Two films based on the volcanic eruptions in Iceland are showcased in the volcano house: the eruption ofHeimaey on 23rd January 1973 and the eruption in Eyjafjallajokull. There are a lot of photographs and a geographic exhibition containing samples of lava, ash and a collection of minerals. There is also a separate art collection by famous Icelandic artists. This house includes objects, artifacts, volcanic rocks samples and even works of art.
The exhibition is curated by renowned volcanologist Haraldur Sigurdsson. He has been studying and teaching about the explosive nature of volcanoes all over the world for over forty years. The museum offers daily guided tours in English and Icelandic about volcanoes and their effects. Visitors can also access information on geology that is suitable for people with little or no previous knowledge in this field.
