The birthplace of the modern day Olympics, the stadium built in there in 330 BC was host to several athletic events in Athens pre-Christianity, The Panathenaic Games hosted in honor of the God Athena, like the Olympics, was hosted every four years at the stadium. The stadium also featured a race-course featuring several events. The stadium made of marble has history embedded within its walls. It is the final location for the Olympic torch. The unique 'U' shape of the stadium has influenced many architects around the world. The stadium reconstructed in 1800 still hosts many events. Most recently it was host to the 2005 Olympics. For the pure nostalgia and for all the sports buffs, the stadium is a must-see destination.
