Le Panier is this Quaint little town, absolutely the place to visit if you love walking through ancient streets. The old-world charm is omnipresent with little windows and flowering plants beside them in every building. The narrow pathways take you through a plethora of small shops and locally run cafes the best place to treat yourself to some local dishes and the best coffee. The small shops in the town are a fashion hub, selling A grade quality materials and designs at some of the best prices, a place best explored on foot so take your time walking down the cobblestone paths and look out for the graffiti on the walls of the building signifying the zeal of the younger generation of Marseille. A spot in the middle of the city showcasing the true heart of the locals, a must-see at Marseille.
From the Vieux Port, hike north up to this fantastic history-woven quarter, which is fabulous for a wander with its artsy ambiance, cool hidden squares, and sun-baked cafes. In Greek Massilia it was the site of the agora (marketplace), hence its name, which means ‘the basket’. During WWII the quarter was dynamited and afterward rebuilt. Today it’s a mishmash of lanes hiding artisan shops, ateliers (workshops), and terraced houses strung with drying washing.
