The dream and result of the hard-work of Georges Henri Rivière a visionary whose collection of artworks was the foundation on which the Museum was built. A very informative place about the culture of the Mediterranean region, its a popular tourist collection especially due to its location, easy to access and close to other important sites is a must-go-to while in Marseilles.
The vast collection is representative of popular artists from the region featuring not only art and design but also photography and print media, the tour guides are helpful and give extensive information about the exhibits. Heavy importance on art and print media might make the museum a bit difficult for younger kids, it's not great for a family trip but if you include the surrounding sites it comes up to a great experience for the kids. Another striking feature of this place is its architecture, looking like a mammoth brick accessible through delicate-looking bridge amps up the overall appeal of the place. Do not miss a chance to visit MuCem a place of visionaries that took several years to conceive, striking, informative and popular.
