About The Round Tower

It is a beautiful  cylindrical structure in the center of the Copenhagen. The tower has been a distinctive feature of the Copenhagen skyline since 1642. It was constructed as an astronomical observatory. Until 1860, it was used as an observatory by the university academics. It continues to be used as such by amateurs. The tower is also attached to Trinitatis Church and an academic library. The observatory is 6.75 meters from the ground has a 7 meters high dome 6 meters wide and holds a strong telescope. The tower gained more fame as the horse’s staircase or equestrian staircase. Czar Peter the Great rode his horse up the ramp In 1716. A car was driven up the ramp in 1902. The ramp design was chosen in such a way that a carriage could be used to  take heavy books to the library and telescopes to the observatory. The tower gained more fame as the horse’s staircase or equestrian staircase. Visitors can go all the way up to just below the observatory level to an open-air roof to look down on the city. Concerts and temporary exhibitions are regularly held in the Library Hall on various historic subjects.
