About Saint Nicholas Russian Church

The famous Saint Nicholas Russian Church is commonly known as the Russian Church in Sofia. You can spot it by the high dome on the Tsar Osvoboditel street, surrounded by four smaller golden domes, which harmonize perfectly with green majolica tiles of the roof. There are a total of five domes in this church and the central dome stands 19 meters high. The exterior of the Church is much more interesting and pleasing to the eye when compared to the interior, which is often referred to as dull and dim by the visitors. However, its frescoes are worth contemplating, as they are painted in the style of the Novgorod icon school. The tomb of former Bishop Serafin, who died in 1950, is the main attraction of the Church. People believe that prayers and wishes come true here.
