The Boyana Church is a medieval church nestled in the foothills of scenic Mount Vitosha in the Boyana Quarter. In 1979, Boyana Church was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The brilliant architecture of the church dates back to the late 10th century. It was originally one of the 35 fortresses that protected the ancient streets of Sofia. Because of its construction over three different time-periods, it has three separate wings. At least 89 scenes with 240 images of people are depicted on the walls of the church.
If you use public transport to reach Boyana Church from City Centre Sofia, take Metro Line 2 to Vitosha station, and then hop on to Bus No. 64 which will take you to the church. You can also use a car or taxi which is more advisable, since the destination is far from the center of the city.
