About National Palace of Culture

The National Palace of Culture is a multifunctional complex situated in the center of the city. It was established in 1981 to commemorate the 1,300th anniversary of the Bulgarian state and is commonly known as NDK. It spans over 15,000 square meters which include concert venues, conference halls, gallery space, and theatres. It has 15 multifunctional halls and 55 premises for meetings which have more than 8,000 seats. Many famous artists and aspiring artists perform in the halls of NDK. A special film festival named Cinemania organized in the month of November is a must-see along with the New Year celebration in the NDK.

How to reach

NDK is only 2 km away from the center of Sofia, which is a 20-minute walk.  You can also use public transport: buses (204 and 604), trolley (5), and trams (1) all stop at NDK. The blue line of the Sofia metro also has an NDK stop. However, a car/taxi is advised. 

Tips

  • The front of the building is a favorite daytime hangout spot for locals.
  • Smoking is prohibited. 
  • Taking pictures without permission is prohibited. 
  • Sundays are more crowded than weekdays.
