The National Institute of Archaeology with Museum displays a vast range of archaeological artifacts, from prehistoric times until the 18th century. A visitor comes out of this place with a deep knowledge of Bulgaria’s culture, history, and people. The archaeological history of Bulgaria can be felt while walking through the walls of the historical mosque. It was established in 1892 aiming to promote the country’s culture and heritage. Along with Stone and Bronze age weaponry, ancient mosaics, religious icons, pottery, and ceramics can be seen within its premises. Engraved rocks as old as 50,000 B.C. and stone tools from Thrace can also be seen.
The National Institute of Archaeology with Museum is in the center of Sofia, facing Antanas Burov Square. It is very close to other major attractions of the city. Serdika metro station is the closest metro station.
