Banya Bashi Mosque is the only mosque in Sofia which is functional today. The mosque represents typical Ottoman architecture and was designed in 1576. The interior of the mosque is spectacular compared to the mundane red bricks of the exterior. Its dome with a diameter of 15 meters is the only remaining example of a domed roof on a cubic base in Bulgaria. There have been several restorations made to the mosque; the last major restoration took place in the 1920s.
Banya Bashi Mosque is very close to City Center Sofia. It won't be more than a 5-minute walk to the mosque.
