About Parque Provincial Aconcagua

The best time to visit the park is the Summer (December to February). The weather is unpredictable and can become cold quickly. Permits are required to climb the mountain and for trekking. The park boasts of the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas and is crowned by eternal glaciers and stunning views. A number of archaeological sites can also be seen along the trekking path. 

The park is well maintained and clean. Do visit if you are looking for a camping experience or a nice hiking experience. The view of the valley is something that is magical. It is truly a natural wonder. Parque Provincial Aconcagua is the home of Cerro Aconcagua, the highest peak in the continent and a favorite climbing destination for mountaineers. Those who are not interested in climbing can hike and settle beneath the snow-line in the base camp or the shelters in the park.

How to reach

It is about a 2-hour drive, 80 km from the city center

By Taxi:

One must rent a car or a taxi to reach the destination. Fare is 3520 ARS

By Bus:

It is about 190 km from Mendoza.you can take the Expreso Uspallata bus from Mendoza at 7:00 a.m.or 8:00 a.m. that would cost 200 ARS

Tips

  • Permits are a must for visitors for trekking and climbing from December to March. If you are coming from Chile, immigration and customs are to be cleared and without a pass, you won't be allowed to enter the park
  • The visitors must carry their own trekking and hiking material along with meals, although camping site materials will be provided by some tourist service providers
  • The climb to the highest mountain takes about 12 days and so, you need to be prepared and packed
  • Children are permitted to hike but not for more than a day, unless with parental supervision 
  • If you are driving, don’t forget to turn your headlights on
  • The park has strict rules for waste disposal, and so make sure you don't litter
  • Also, you are only allowed to camp in permitted places
  • Hiking may not be allowed during winter, so plan your trip accordingly
  • There aren't any restaurants and cafeteria, so carry your own water bottles and snacks
  • You need a separate ticket to hike the base camp and it is to be strictly followed 
  • It is recommended to bring thick jackets, hiking shoes, and a first-aid kit
  • People with high BP and Asthma are not allowed
  • You are recommended to have some cash since credit cards may not be accepted

From Puente del Inca it is only 2 km The entry fees amount varies from trail to trail. A typical trekking costs around 3000 ARS. The packages range from 7 days to 2 hours, totally dependant on the convenience of the visitors. Please note that the fees vary for foreigners, Argentinians and Mendoza citizens
