About Cafe Tortini

Buenos Aires is filled with great cafes, Cafe Tortini is the oldest and most famous of them. Set up in 1858 by a French immigrant, this classy yet quaint cafe has been an important part of Argentine cultural life. Notable customers included tango dancer Carlos Gardel, composer Arthur Rubinstein, writer Borges, poet Alfonsina Storni and philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset. These days hordes of tourists queue up to savor its fabulous interiors - stained glass, marble tables, furnishings, the dark wooden paneling - and delicious food. Order a coffee along with some of the cafe's famous snacks and soak in the ambiance.
