About Grand Erg Oriental

What’s an erg? An Erg is an old Berber word and an artistic term. The Grand Erg Oriental, or Great Eastern Sand Sea, is a group of sand dunes in the Sahara Desert that spill into Tunisia from Algeria.

This dry and remote area of Tunisia will make you feel like you’re a million miles away from home. Take plenty of pictures on your adventure of the sharp peaks in this massive expanse of land.

Visitors to Tunisia should book one of the tours available to the Grand Erg. Ride on camelback and spend a night or two in the desert. Ride through small villages. You will need to carry all of your food, water, and camping supplies with you. Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun and sandy winds by wearing appropriate headwear and clothing.
