If you are a lover of great scenery and long drives, Chapman's Peak is the place to be. Hacked out of the face of the mountain between the year 1915 and 1922 it is a major feat of engineering. This beautiful road has been featured in many advertisements and is very picturesque. Initially, after the road was open, there was a rockfall that caused death and the road had to be closed for safety reasons. It was soon reopened after being re-engineered to protect motorists from landslides and rockfalls. Chapman's peak overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and hosts two of the biggest sports events of South Africa - the Cape Argus Cycle Race and the Two Oceans Marathon. Do visit Chapman's Peak and drive along beautiful cliff roads and experience the thrill of a lifetime.
It is 38 Km from the city center. Take a bus to Imizamo Yethu Township from Long Street and from here, take a taxi to Chapman's Peak.
The ride will cost you around R 300 to R 350. Renting a car is a good choice.
