The Slavin Memorial is a tribute to the thousands of Soviet soldiers who were killed during the liberation of Bratislava in World War II. It is also a military cemetery and burial ground for those brave men who were killed in action. The triumphant monument which stands in the middle of the cemetery is a memorial for their heroic efforts and brave sacrifices. The gigantic monument is topped by an 11-meter tall statue of a soldier with a flag. Spend some quiet moments and soak in the peaceful atmosphere, relax and enjoy the stunning views from the hilltop setting, of the city to the south. You can take a walk along the paths across the cemetery, passing memorial sculptures and headstones inscribed with the names of soldiers. There are also mass graves containing the remains of thousands of troops. The city’s Museum of Arms will give you a lot of information about the Russian Liberation as well as the subsequent rule of the USSR.
