About Primate's Palace

The pale pink luxurious Primatial Palace is one of the treasured architectural jewels of Slovakia. Once the Archbishop's house, this palace is a must-see if you are in Bratislava's Old Town. It has a lot of historic importance and currently serves as the Mayor's seat and also hosts the City Council. Although, the whole palace is not open to the public, there are a couple of outstanding rooms that allow visitors. The famous Hall of Mirrors, where various concerts and meetings take place, is one of them. The statue of St. George’s (the dragon slayer) Fountain in the courtyard is also a major attraction. Red carpeted floors, huge white columns, symbolic statues, and small beautiful lamps complete the final look of the interiors of the palace.

How to reach

Take tram 4 from the city center and get off at SND. Walk for 3 mins to reach Primatial Palace. Trams are available every 8 minutes. The total journey will take around 20 minutes.

Buy a ticket for 60 minutes that costs EUR 1.20; this ticket is good for almost all journeys within Bratislava. You can also travel with a ticket for 15 minutes for EUR 0.70 or a ticket for 30 minutes for EUR 0.90. For pets, bicycles or large luggage, you need to purchase a ticket for .35 cents and this is valid for 180 minutes.

Tips

  • There is only one room where you have permission to take photos – the Hall of Mirrors.
  • The palace serves as a venue for Bratislava City Council meetings. So entry may be restricted during these times.
  • Various concerts happen here. You can check the event calendar and enjoy the entertainment shows if possible.
  • Some areas of the palace are not open to the public.
  • The Primatial Palace will remain closed on all Mondays.
  • Free WiFi is available for visitors. You can see people working on their laptops at the square.
