About Historic Building of the Slovak National Theater

Visiting the old Slovak National Theater definitely belongs to the cultural and historical experiences of Slovakia. As you enter the premises of the oldest professional theater in the country, you will be amazed at the architectural marvel of the building. The theater proudly stands on Hviezdoslavovo Square, surrounded by beautiful landscapes. There are many stalls and restaurants all around and this is an ideal place to have a fun outing day! The first performance of the theater took place after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1920. Since then there have been more than 100 artistic seasons, during which the Slovak National Theater grew into one of the most important cultural institutes of the country. There is also a new building of Slovak National Theater which opened in 2007. Its construction took 27 years, but you will not find it as extravagant as the old building. The rustic charm and the glory of the historic building of Slovak National Theater are at its best during the night time. The multitude of lights and the feel of the surroundings will transport you to a different era, a more romantic and mystique time.
