This iconic landmark of Glasgow has been aptly referred to as a ‘beacon for Scotland’s creative industries’. The Lighthouse is one of Glasgow’s many architectural masterpieces embellishing the city. This historic landmark bears the magic of legendary Mackintosh and happens to sport panoramic views of unparalleled proportions. Designed in1895, for decades, the Lighthouse served as the enviable headquarters of the Glasgow Herald newspaper. The building combines Mackintosh's genius with modern day ideas and success and turned out to be Scotland’s Centre For Design and Architecture, a title close to Glasgow’s heart considering the city’s status as a UK City of Architecture and Design. This creative prowess was immortalized by the Clydesdale Bank by issuing a £20-note decorated with an illustration of the Lighthouse. The conversion into function suites inside is a credit to modern architects and designers. It's amazing to see what has been done inside. From the innovative Mackintosh Tower outside at the corner and the CRM ironwork at the entrance, level after level there are amazing facts and stories about this Glasgow beacon. Take time in the Mackintosh Centre for the two terrific timelines and both the original and valuable replica CRM pieces on display. See all the wonderful photos of all the CRM Scottish buildings in an elegant space devoted to the Mackintosh.
