Glasgow Green is spread out in a sprawling 136 acres. It is one of the city’s largest, historic, and most popular parks, providing running paths, sports pitches, and the gorgeous People’s Palace and Winter Gardens. Other highlights include McLennan Arch and the Tidal Weir. Glasgow Green was tagged as the oldest “public park” in Britain with its rich diversity and was conferred with Green Flag Award in 2011. From time immemorial Glasgow Green has been used by the people of Glasgow for washing, bleaching linen, grazing cattle, drying fishing nets, and for swimming. It is here that Prince Charlie's army camped during the uprising. There are loads of paths to walk or cycle. Situated on the banks of the Clyde, the park extends over many acres. Have a look at the Doulton Fountain and People's Palace or a stroll along to Nelson's Monument towards the Arch, old railway bridges, and the surrounding architecture above the modern facade. A great venue for an open-air concert, Glasgow Green is host to several major annual events, such as the World Pipe Band Championships and Glasgow's Bonfire Night fireworks display. Lots of things happen at different times of the year.
