About Qaisariah Souq

Qaisariah means a "collection of shops" in Arabic and Souq means "market." Qaisariyah in Al Hofuf is an old remarkable marketplace in the city. It was built hundreds of years ago and was the central market with shops, mosques, monuments, and other historic structures. The markets houses around 422 shops of varying products with aesthetically created ceilings to let natural light and air penetrate in the narrow market lanes. The goods sold include clothes, traditional medicine, watches, and antiques. Agricultural products have different market days spread among the major towns in Al-Hasa. There is a separate section for cotton-style furniture and carpeting, and another section for brass and metal tools, and utensils. Metal tools include those used for trimming and replanting palm trees. There are also many shops that sell dried food and spices including locally-planted brown rice and raw and roasted coffee. The shops in Qaisariah Souq have a unique feature of “kabnaks,” furniture put on the doors of its shops. This marketplace is a perfect example of local goods, historic site, and traditional architecture.
