About Yangon Zoological Park

This 70-acre recreational park includes an amusement park, an aquarium, and a museum of natural history. It has a collection of 200 species and 1,100 animals. The zoo has nearly 2.2 million visitors annually. This zoo was originally operated by the Ministry of Forestry until April 2011. It is now operated by a private firm.

Must See

The Natural History Museum is located in the south-end of the park. It houses exhibits of taxidermy. It specializes in the rare species of Burmese fauna and explanatory charts and captions are provided thereunder. Various animal shows are performed in the zoological park on weekends and public holidays between the period from November to April. Also, the aquarium in the park is the first large scale aquarium in Myanmar. The amusement park is entertaining with numerous rides including a roller coaster.

How to reach

 It is located immediately north of Yangon city near the Kandawgyi Lake. It is only 4 km from the city.

Tips

  • The map and directions are not in English. The labels around the Zoo are also written in Burmese. 
  • Having a tour guide is a better option.
