About Shwedagon Pagoda

Shwedagon Pagoda is the most important Buddhist temple in Myanmar. The architecture is almost 2,500 years old.  Its stupa is gold-plated. Further, the stupa is encrusted with 4,531 diamonds, the largest being a 72-carat diamond. It has enshrined the strands of Buddha's hair as well. It is considered to be the city's biggest tourist attraction. Visit in the early morning or late afternoon, for a less-crowded view in this great piece of religious architecture.

  • Breathtaking views of the place at night
  • Do not miss out on the bells on the top of pagoda and bats flying through the sky
  • Explore the temple and the holy monks
  • Dress moderately
    • Do not bare your shoulders while visiting the temple
    • Wear conservative dresses covering your knees
    • Sleeves must reach ideally be 3/4 length
  • Maintain silence and discipline inside the premises
  • Dome looks spectacular at sunset
  • You can experience a peaceful atmosphere
  • Be mindful and respectful of silence and traditions
  • The pagoda is full of precious metals and diamonds
