About Botahtaung Pagoda

The new pagoda has a height of 131 feet 8 inches and has a base of 96 feet (29 m) x 96 feet (29 m). It was built 2,000 years ago. It was completely destroyed during World War II and it was rebuilt after the war. The must-see attraction is the hollow stupa. It has a mirrored walkway wholly lined with glass showcases. These glass showcases contain many artifacts and ancient relics.

The Pagoda is hollow inside. Make sure to check out this exquisite architecture. Also, the sacred hair relics of Buddha - which the legend says to have transported from India - is kept in the Pagoda.

How to reach

It is 15 km away from the city. A taxi is preferable to get there.

Tips

Dress conservatively while going to the Pagoda - 3/4-length sleeves and skirts below the knee are preferable.
