About Grand Socco

Located right in the center of the modern urban and the traditional picturesque neighborhoods, the Grand Socco Alto Mall is a worth visiting "shopping hub" in the Tangier city of Morocco. This lively square junction is also known by the name "April 9th, 1947 square," which holds a history behind it. For the declaration of Independence of Morocco to France, the then Moroccon king Mohammad Al-Khamis Ben Youssef Ben Mohammed Al-Alaoui, or, in short, Mohammad V, choose this site to announce the independence of his nation on 9th of April 1947.

This square junction is a hub of several local and branded stores selling everything you want from clothes to shoes to eatables. The entire site is painted and maintained well in lively colors that are enough to catch visitors' attention. The Socco Mall is the biggest attraction of the Tangier city and is highly active during the evenings. This huge hypermarket also has a fun children park, a bowling zone, and several national and international brands.

The Grand Socco market place of the city divides the Medina from Ville Nouvelle. The entire site turns to look more like a movie set in the evening when all fountains start, and vendors start selling second-hand goods at the sides of the square junction. One can spend a few hours of relaxation on one of the benches in the adjacent garden named Mendoubia Garden. The beautiful fountains of the garden enhance the beauty of this square. The charm of Grand Socco attracts thousands of tourists every year, making tourism one of the primary sources of income.
