Gutman rebelled against the European contemporary art community and his works of art are therefore focused on the darker side of life such as the Holocaust. Gutman wrote and published about the upbringing of Israeli children in short stories and children's tales. Constantly shifting from figurative to abstract elements of paintings when most Israeli artists seemed to diminish and blend with the international styles, he directed his attention towards local elements without being swayed away.
He worked on a mixture of old and new art forms and on different mediums such as oil, watercolours, gouache, sculpture, and mosaics. He opened a new exhibition to display his works of art titled "Gutman in the Land of Evil". The intention was to focus on Israeli local style while having broader views of various artworks. For art lovers, there is no better way to spend the evening than in the midst of the works of this legendary thinker.
