St. Patrick's Cathedral is named as the national cathedral of Ireland. Tradition has it that here, St. Patrick baptized the people converted to Christianity in AD 450. Like Christ Church, the original edifice was timber. In 1192, one more church was founded and constructed using stone. Just over a century later, another reconstruction has taken place and its status was raised to that of the cathedral. 'Gulliver's Travels' author and satirist Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), is interred in a tomb to the right of the entrance beside his longtime love 'Stella' (Hester Johnson 1681-1728).
