Be spellbound from the second you enter the gates to the Amba Vilas Palace. Also called the Mysuru Palace or Mysore Palace in Mysore, it was the home to the Wadiyar dynasty from the 14th to 20th centuries.
The arched doorways and red domes on the sprawling building outside don’t compare to the elegant beauty inside. Mahogany ceilings, silver doors, intricately tiled floors, and lush red carpets will give you a feel of how the maharajas lived. The royalty loved art and music, weapons and wrestling, animals, and fine furnishings.
Among the many marvellous creations, the palace houses the Golden Throne. This is an elephant howdah, with a tortoise seat and wooden frame at its core. There is nothing ordinary about this particular seat though; it is covered in 175 lbs of gold sheets. The sheets are intricately carved with flowers, vines, and scrollwork. It also comes with its own set of stairs and umbrella.
You’re sure to feel as spoiled as a maharaja at Mysore Palace.
