Vittala temple is the main tourist attraction in the UNESCO world heritage city of Hampi. This temple consists of the most extravagant architectural showpieces. In every corner of this temple, one will find the walls adorned with alluring stone carvings. This reflects the high thinking abilities of the architects who had built this temple. King Devaraya I of the Vijayanagara empire had built the Vittala Temple in 15th century B.C. One of the fascinating attractions inside the temple premises is the stone chariot. It is a temple built in such a way that it resembles a chariot. The base platform of the stone chariot consists of engravings of the mythical battle scenarios. The wheel of this stone chariot is decorated with floral motifs, and the wheels are free to move around the axis.
Another mesmerizing place inside the temple is the Maha Mantap or the great hall. The Mahan Mantap is standing on a highly ornate platform, and it is also carved with a series of floral motifs. The lowermost part of the motifs resembles chain horses, their trainers, and traders. And, one may witness the giant monolithic pillars with elegant stone carvings on them. This part of the temple consists of the musical pillars which emit the musical note of SAREGAMAPA when tapped on the pillars. Moreover, one can also witness the 100 pillared halls situated in the southwestern part of the temple. Another thing which may be more enjoyable for the visitors is the ceiling of the temple with the lotus-like cravings in its center.
