Do you wish to live like a king? Or at least witness how royalty feels like? Then Schloss Hohenschwangau is the place for you. Schloss Hohenschwangau or Hohenschwangau Castle, in southern Germany, was the childhood home of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and is still a royal residence. Ludwig II continued to live at Schloss Hohenschwangau after he ascended the throne, but in 1869 he began building his own castle, Neuschwanstein, high above Hohenschwangau. Royalty continues to live in Hohenschwangau, it is currently the summer residence of the Duke of Bavaria. Given the close proximity of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castles and their history in common, you can plan to visit both on the same day. The Museum of Barvarian Kings is located below the castle and exhibits the history of the Bavarian kings. |
