The Panthéon was designed by the famous architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot. The place was built by King Louis XV to mark his recovery from a serious illness. To add glory to the monarchy, this church was dedicated to the patron saint of Paris, Saint Geneviève.
This is also the burial ground of Voltaire, the famous French philosopher and writer, and Victor Hugo, the poet, novelist, and dramatist, and is also the mausoleum of many famous French citizens. The architecture is Neo-Classical with a facade inspired by the Pantheon of Rome. The dome is inspired by Bramante's Tempietto.
