Saona Island (Isla Saona) is the Dominican Republic's largest coastal island. Part of the National Park of the East, this island features plenty of white sandy beaches, tall palm trees, and soothing turquoise waters. It houses the remarkable Altos de Chavon, a recreation of a 16th-century Mediterranean village perched above the Chavon River. Travel to Saona island aboard a speedboat or catamaran, relax on the white sandy beach fringed with swaying coconut trees. Enjoy a Dominican style barbecue lunch, eat, drink and indulge in leisure activities on the island.
Saona Island is only reachable by boat. The closest mainland town is Bayahibe and it is 40 minutes away by speedboat, or two hours away on a leisurely catamaran cruise.
