About Museum of Memory and Human Rights

The Museum of Memory and Human Rights came into existence to commemorate the victims of human rights that were violated during the Pinochet regime. It is a memorial to the Chileans. President Michelle Bachelet laid down the museum's first stone in 2008. The museum exhibits torture devices which were used by Pinochet's forces, inclusive of the prisoners' letters to family members and survivors' statement. The inscription of the Poem at the entrance written by Victor Jara is a characteristic feature. It emphasizes the solidarity of human rights with a noble initiative of preventing an attack on human dignity. The museum is dynamic and is a space for reflection that reflects the culture and history of Santiago.
