The Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. Built in1869 and planned by architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, it reopened in 1955 following the devastation in World War II. It is a must-visit in Vienna. One can get to see the seven decades of the opera on CD or DVD and also a comprehensively illustrated book.
Originally called the Vienna Court Opera, it was renamed the Vienna State Opera. Members of the Vienna Philharmonic are recruited from this orchestra. Get to see many insights into the opera house by taking up the guided tour.
