Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Sydney's most iconic structures. A steel ridged bridge connecting the Sydney central business district to the North Shore commutes road, rail, and pedestrians. Opened to the public in 1932, one can walk on the eastern side of the bridge and can also climb up the stairs towards the pedestrian cross. Owing to its arch-shaped design it gets the nickname of 'The Coathanger'. With a cycleway towards the western side of the bridge and one can cycle near the Sydney Observatory across the bridge or climb to the top or take the lift for an enthralling and once-in-a-lifetime view of the sights and scenes of this ethereal city. The bridge exhibits the reviving spirit of the city as its constructions gave job opportunities and new livelihoods to an unemployed working class of Sydney. Besides meeting the increasing commuting needs of the city the Bridge was artistically designed to be a major tourist attraction.
