Djerbahood is not an old neighborhood in Tunisia. It was a street art event in 2014 founded by Mehdi Ben Cheikh. He says Djerbahood is “a unique artistic adventure in the world of urban arts and an effervescence movement in a developing country.”
Djerbahood is a collection of 250 spray-painted murals in one area of Erriadh. The paintings were created by 150 artists from 30 different countries using 4,500 cans of paint. In a country steeped in culture and tradition, Djerbahood is something unique.
Djerbahood mobilized the town to a common goal. Artists, citizens, and merchants worked together to get approvals, supplies, and inspiration. It was an ultimate community effort to create something beautiful.
