The mosque surrounding the main Kabba in Mecca is called 'The great Masjid of Makkah' or 'The Grand Mosque'. Announced as the largest Mosque worldwide, this is also called Al Haram Masjid that is the Kaaba in the Hejaz city of Makkah Saudi Arabia. The Hajj which is one of the largest annual gatherings of people in the world Mecca and required by every Muslim to do it once in their lifetime ends here. The Mosque covers 400,800 square meters (99 acres) and has outdoor and indoor praying spaces. It is the largest Mosque in the World. How to reach

From Mecca city, you need to take taxi as it is 8 Km away and takes 10 minutes to reach via route 15 road; if you go there walking you need 1 hr 30 min via Furqan Road. Take Uber taxi it is reasonable. By Train from Jeddah, it will cost 20 riyals.

Tips

  • Take a prayer mat it can make the experience more comfortable, especially if it is crowded and you need to pray outside
  • Must have a shoe bag to carry your shoes or it will be difficult to locate them.
  • Keep socks  if the occasion permits, you can use it as  too much barefoot walking for those not used to it, can cause blisters.
  • Do familiarize yourself before you go there either through online diagrams or better still, take a Smartphone app
  • Be prepared for changes at busy times. Because of the huge crowds, the authority needs to manage access dynamically.
  • Explore all the different floors and area, as you can find solitude even in busy times in parts.
  • Get there early for all prayers. Women are not able to offer communal prayers in the main market area, and even inside the mosque.
  • Visit Umrah while you are young.
  • There are places for ladies to pray on the second floor of the Masjid Haram.
  • Not all Umrah books have the details on prayer for individual graves.
  • The busiest time is obviously Hajj, followed by Ramadan.
  • Bring a sunshade for your eyes the Haram is all white marble and during the day it is very bright and gets difficult to see.
  • The Haram has A.C. in the King Farhad section.
  • There is water available everywhere so keep yourself hydrated. It does get extremely hot so be careful.
  • Suggestion if you have a young baby infant bring a small portable fan.
