The Nasseef House, also spelled Nassif House, in Jeddah is a remarkable building. It was built for the governor in 1872.
The bold mansion has been a home, a library, and has most recently been converted to a gallery and museum. The wealthy enjoyed socializing here in the 19th century. You may find yourself lost in the maze of 106 rooms and hallways. Special exhibits are on display with paintings on wood and tile and educational lectures are given there.
Other than the size two things make Nasseef House unique. The house was designed by a Turkish architect. And, just imagine having your deliveries brought into your kitchen on camelback. The special stairways were wide and tall enough for the camel and rider to go up to the fifth floor.
