Beautiful Lake Titicaca’s wild Flora and Fauna, the Titicaca National Reserve, was officially declared by the Supreme decree no. 185-78-AA. Titicaca and its biodiversity were provided with an edge on October 31, 1978, ensuring the proper safety and natural nourishment to the place. Located in the southeast of Lima near the province of Puno and Huancane, the Titicaca National reserve is spread on an area of 36180 hectares and at an average altitude of 3,810 meters above sea level. The Titicaca national reserve has been given international importance as a house of water birds.
There are three main zones on the inland reserve: the Winaymarca Lake, the Puno bay, and the deepest and largest Chucuito Lake (Maximum depth of 280 meters).
Likewise, the islands of Uros, also known as floating islands, are also a part of this reserve. However, most of them are served only as housing.
When you explore deep into the preserve, Titicaca is home for more than 160 wildlife species, of which 105 are birds, 26 fishes, 15 mammals, nine amphibians, and four reptiles. The waters birds are most frequent and can be seen anytime, waiting for you to raise your camera. Titicaca National Reservation is home to extensive greenery and enormous flora, including more than 170 plant species. The reserve comes under the Peruvian state preserves, which supports socioeconomic developments ensuring the maintenance of cultural traditions of the place. Currently, most of the inhabitants work on tourism business and few in other traditional activities such as handcrafting and hunting.
