About Colca Canyon

The Call of the Condor

Those elusive Andean avians that roam the desert free with their outstretched wings; a river that winds slowly through the second deepest canyon in the world - Colca Canyon is one of the most prized tourist destinations in Peru. The descent down and the ascent up can be arduous but every moment will be worth it. The desert-like landscape contrasts at times with green valleys. Remote traditional villages, reminiscent of the Inca civilization dot the landscape. Terraced agriculture is practiced here. While you may awake from your slumber with a condor calling you at dawn, dusk will descend quietly upon this magnificent panorama. And you can only imagine the crescent moon shining serenely on the Colca snaking her way through the bends and falls of the rocks and the earth. The canyon is 3400 meters at its deepest point with endless trekking trails. Splash in the cool oasis or feast on the local fruits. Let a Llama eye you with curiosity or just walk an unknown trail with a good guide. Raft on the Colca. Finally, listen to the call of the condor as it flaps its beautiful big wings and flies away into the unknown.
