About Te Matua Ngahere

Translating to “Father of the Forest” in the Maori language, this giant coniferous tree is not as large as its neighbour Tane Mahuta but is definitely stouter with a girth of 16 metres. The bit of a walk from the car park past the four sisters feels totally worth it. Soak up the massive beauty the scale of which cannot be captured in a photograph. Find out some interesting facts and information with the guides present there. The place is also a good option for kids.

Be careful as to not damage its sensitive root system and admire the tree from the viewing platform. The foot traffic may endanger the trees’ life span.
