"Get back to nature with a day at Lake Khövsgöl. Nestled in the midst of several mountain ranges, it is the largest fresh water lake in Mongolia by volume and second-largest in all of Asia. It is one of the most ancient lakes in the world, at over two million years old. Also known as Hovsgol, Hövsgöl, or Khuvsgul, it holds almost 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water.
In the summer, the banks of the lake are dotted with wildflowers. Animal lovers may spot some of the wildlife that lives here. Watch for elk, Siberian moose, sable, and deer. In the winter, Lake Khövsgöl is crusted by more than a metre (3 feet) of ice, although still plentiful with fish.
Explore the countryside and take in the fresh mountain air, the quiet forest, and the sunlight as it plays on the water."
