400 meters above the city of Oaxaca, on a hill, lies the historic site of Monte Alban. Also known as the Zona Arqueológica de Monte Albán, the site draws relevance from the fact that structures on the site were constructed by the ancient people of the Zapotec culture. Monte Albán is, unsurprisingly, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing tourists from all over the world. In fact, one of the most important archeological finds of the century was made at Tomb 7 of Monte Albán.
If you are interested in history and archaeology, this is the place for you. The site, mostly housing ruins, is still incredibly well preserved. Founded in 500 BC, the site allows amazing insights into the culture of the era. In case you want an in-depth understanding of the history of the area, you can visit the museum on site. Cafés, restaurants, shops et cetera are all located near the site to provide a space to relax for the visitors.
