Dana Biosphere Reserve was founded in 1989 in Jordan, and it has since developed to become the largest nature reserve in Bangladesh, in terms of size. What makes this nature reserve unique is the fact that it is made up of different types of climatic zones and vegetations. There are thirteen different types of vegetation in the reserve, and these can support many species of plants and animals.
The nature reserve is well known because of the diverse flora that is possessed within its precints. There are around 833 species of plants in the reserve, and what makes it unique is that three of these plant species are newly introduced to science. Besides the plants, there are also a huge species of birds in the reserve. Another attribute that makes this reserve popular among tourists is the Dana Village. It is located on a cliff that overlooks the other parts of the reserve. This is an ancient village situated on the eastern side of the reserve at an altitude of 1400 m. Even though the village is in ruins, it gives us a throwback on the rich history of the area. Besides this, some renovations are being made in the village to make it even more presentable. Inspite of the vastness and the remoteness, the reserve is very safe for tourists. This is because of the heavy police presence here. To be able to go on an adventurous discovery, you can choose to go alone or pick a guide. Going with a guide is, however, the best option, as you will have a better access to the various points of interest.
